Whiskey Insight

5/20/2019

As the final two books in the Whiskey Series are in the final stages of edits, I figured I would give a little backstory to the books.

It all started with Remi Kay. She popped into my head one day. I knew her name and I thought I knew her story. I started writing and the original title was - Who the Fuck Is Remi Kay? It was a completely different direction. But as I was writing it, I hit a wall and realized it was not going to work out the way I planned. I shelved it.

Instead of returning to her story, I started her twin brother Jax's story, Whiskey Dick. A short, silly, fun romance. I contact my cover artist and as I'm discussing options with her,  it hits me, if Jax is dick, Remi can be chick. That's perfect. She makes me the two covers. I'm good to go. Great.

Whiskey Dick is done and I return to Remi Kay's story, Whiskey Chick, with a new approach and new story line. I write and write and write.

WALL!

It is in no way, shape or form the right story. I'm basically half way through the book and I have no choice but to hit DELETE.

I'm freaking out. This whole thing started because of this crazy character Remi and I have no freaking clue how to write her.

We make a last minute decision to go to Niagara Falls. I obsess over her story the entire car ride there and back. I try and channel the energy of the Falls for some creative spark. But we return home and I'm left staring at a blank screen.

I was going nutty. I'm like what the fuck is whiskey chicks story????? What did she do? What is the story of whiskey chick? Whiskey chick's story is....

Then it hit me, she needed an actual story. The legend of Whiskey Chick. There ya go. Awesome.

As I write, I quickly realize she needs a BF, a partner in crime. The birth of Jenn. There also needed to be another brother - enter Henry. I loved them both. I knew I would def need to tell their stories too.

Henry's story came easy. Whiskey Trick. Fun and perfectly Henry. The idea for Jenn came easy too...at first. I knew her story would be Whiskey Flick. But the original flick I had in mind was completely different.

I had a plan, even shared it with a few people but then one day while videoing with my author buddy, I had a slow motion epiphany - ooooohhhh-mmmmmmmmm-gggggeeeeeee. Her story was right in front of me the entire time. I hit the brakes and re-started it in a whole new direction. Yippeeeee! I loved writing it!

And although all the Whiskey Books can stand alone, I really would love for readers to read Trick and Flick together, which is why I am waiting to release them both at the same time.

The final two books are coming in June 2019.
